聽到Spelling
Bee別以為是新品種的蜜蜂歐，它指的是在英語系國家相當風行的拼字比賽。早期參賽者需要成篇的背出聖經，衍生到現在則以拼寫出單字為主，拼寫成績累積高分即可得獎。舉辦拼字比賽其目的是要幫助學生增進拼寫字彙能力與英文的練習。夏恩英語承襲英語系國家教育方式，每年八月舉辦全國兒童拼字檢定大賽（Spelling
Bee）。 |
比賽方式分為初賽-拼字檢定（Spelling
Test）：全國學員需要在六月先於分校，通過由低至高共計8個級數的紙筆拼字測驗，分數最高的學員才可參加在正式的拼字比賽（Spelling
Bee）。正式的拼字比賽（Spelling Bee）分為低中高三個級數，參賽者需要以口語拼出外師即時的考題，第一關答對累積題數多，晉級第二輪淘汰賽，第二輪比賽只要拼錯即出局，最後決賽兩人由小白板寫出外師指定考題爭奪冠軍。
大賽當天，學員個個摩拳擦掌急欲展現自然發音的學習的成果（自然發音法可快速累積字彙能力），雖然競爭激烈但參賽者依然互相鼓勵加油，展現夏恩英式紳士風格的一面。
Spelling Bee小故事
第一個Spelling Bee比賽是由一個記者在Kentucky州小學舉辦的男女對抗賽，因為教育意義濃厚，Kentucky教育協會也參與協助，陸續美國其他州及相關媒體也參與贊助Spelling
Bee比賽。到了1925已經有15個州有這樣的比賽，於是第一個全國拼寫組織焉然成立。 |

台灣誕生了足球小貝克漢（Beckham）！由夏恩英語所推動的「足球嘉年華暨兒童足球聯賽」，六月在大佳河濱公園開戰。比賽分幼兒組、國小高低年級組，數百位可愛的小球星面對歐洲小學超強足球隊，發揮辛苦鍛鍊技巧，及優異團隊精神，在家長的感動中贏得獎盃，而萬中選一的得分王-金靴獎（Golden
boot）更是掀起了激烈的足球風雲。 |
| 台灣近來積極推動幼兒兒童足球，夏恩英語因英國創始人及英國籍教師優勢，多年前即開始由專業足球教練以全英語教授學員足球技巧，舉辦足球嘉年華不只是驗收學員們學習的成果，更希望能為台灣足球推展盡一份心力。此次活動特別邀約歐洲小學的外國小朋友以球會友，雖然歐洲小球員足球超強，但是希望孩子能透語言與運動交流學習到更多課本以外的學問。英國的家長會陪小孩練足球，從旁給予鼓勵及指導，足球成為親子關係建立的共通語言，所以夏恩英語希望台灣的親子也能在足球遊戲中享受互動的樂趣。活動除了選出冠亞軍隊伍外，並評選出得分最多且表現優秀的-金靴獎（Golden
boot）。活動現場還有許多英國當地流行的園遊會遊戲，外國老師讓家長跟小朋友都渡過愉快的嘉年華會。
足球活動小提醒
兒童學習足球對身心有益，但夏恩英語專業足球教練提醒家長，足球鞋、護脛、足球有區分為兒童與成人專屬大小，要小心選購才能發揮最大運動功效。譬如足球鞋，有分草地用釘鞋及一般運動場地足球鞋，考慮幼兒身體發展，建議兒童不要在太硬的場地踢足球以免受傷。而保護小腿的護脛佩帶最好穿著足球襪，以加強保護兒童小腿。足球，建議使用3號球（大人用5號）。

夏恩英語為了讓學員能透過有趣的英文活動增加音樂、哲學、自然、音樂、地理等的知識涵養，並能學習國外小朋友自己尋找答案解決問題，而且經由團隊比賽培養互信觀念特別舉辦「The
Brain of Shane夏恩英頭腦挑戰賽」。本活動讓小朋友與老師家長共同參與答案尋找討論過程增進親子關係與學習興趣。 |
本競賽參賽者需全程以英語聽且應答所有的常識題目，可以說是相當困難的挑戰，但能大量累積英文實力的競賽。2005年冠亞軍分別由東湖校與文化校獲得。您也可以練習回答幾個有趣的常識問題歐！！What

score a birdie? What planet is the closest
to the sun? If a woman gives birth to

您曾經面對面訪問過大人物嗎？或用英文訪問過外商的高級主管嗎嗎？就算是大人面對這樣的英文採訪應該也是相當緊張的吧。為了讓夏恩學員能夠獲得更多課堂以外的英文實戰經驗，每季均舉辦『夏恩英文小記者VIP
Interview』活動，讓學員能展現優異英文成果。學員需要以英文擬出訪問題目，並與外國經理人面對面用英文訪談並記錄報導。 |

這樣重量級的訪問總是能讓家長、學生及被訪問者留下難忘的經驗，2005年已經採訪的公司有IKEA、MFA
與TESTO等。訪問英國最大零售公司TESCO（特易購）的商品採購處總監Commercial
Director Mr. James Padovan。小學員與Mr. James交換一些賣場經營、行銷、擴點計劃及個人生活、工作、家庭及運動休閒等話題，還請教TESCO與COSCO哪裡不同，雖然題目尷尬，Mr.
James也輕鬆回答小朋友的疑問。

It was great to interview a foreigner
in English. It was glad to get
this special opportunity. I went
to Tesco with two schoolmates
and teachers. It was the first
time I had met James, who has
worked for Tesco for a long time.
When I met James, I felt really
nervous. But when we started interviewing,
I didn’t feel nervous anymore
because he gave us a cordial greeting
and was friendly. He introduced
Tesco to us and gave us gifts.
I’m grateful because he helped
me to realize many things about
Tesco and how hard he works here’s
without his family. I think it
was a nice experience. It was
good to try. I hope Tesco trade
will be brisk and I hope I can
visit again. I really enjoyed
the interview very much. |

Tesco is the largest grocery
store in England. I was very
glad to interview the Commercial
director Mr. James Padovan.
He has served at Tcsco for fifteen
years, and he has lived in Taiwan
for about eight months. James
has two brothers and they live
in England with their parents.
Although Mr. Padovan is alone
in Taiwan, He enjoys his job
very much. “Tesco” was named
after the initials of the two
founders, who were T. E. Stockton
and C. O. something. Tesco has
seven stores in Taiwan now,
and they want to have some more
stores in the future. James
suggested that if we want to
be a successful business-man,
education is very important.
So we must go to a good university
in order to have more choices
for a carreer. After this interview
with Mr. Padovan, I think Tesco
will get better and better and
become the best grocery store
in the world. |

On Wednesday my mom and I went
to Tesco with Sean, Christine
and two teachers. We asked James
Padovan the Tesco Commercial Director
some questions. He was shot, thick-set
man and looked very kind. When
I talked to him I was a little
scared, but I didn’t know why
I was scared. My mom said my face
turned white. When I talked to
James Padovan. I asked four questions,
Sean asked five questions and
Christine asked three questions.
At last James Padovan asked us
some questions, too. And then
he gave us some gifts. The gift
was very good. I really like it.
I will take my mom and dad to
Tesco shopping. |
