Teachers at the Direct Teaching
Establishments (DTE) schools and
Franchise schools teach students
of all ages and abilities, from
3 year old children to senior business
executives. Younger Learners
- Children are grouped by age
with a maximum of 18 per class.
- All children’s classes
have complete course guides and
syllabus guides.
- Children’s classes with
high numbers of students have
Chinese teaching assistants to
help with the correction of homework,
monitoring of students and classroom
control.
- All schools are fully stocked
with the materials necessary to
teach young children. Art materials,
reading books, building blocks
etc are either in each classroom
or in the teachers’ room.

Adult Students
- Adult students study for many
reasons. Some may require English
for their jobs, to secure promotion
or to be able to study and work
overseas.
- Adult classes can be a high
level with exam preparation involved.
Some, however, attend English
classes for the enjoyment and
social aspects of learning a new
language and culture.
- Adult learners are grouped by
ability levels from complete beginner
to advanced with a maximum of
18 students per class.
- The general adult courses are
taught solely by native speakers,
and are based around selected
texts.
- Teachers design lessons tailored
to fit each group’s particular
needs.

Private Classes
- Some students prefer not to

private one on one classes.

of courses ranging from general
English courses to exam preparation
and specialist phonics and reading
