On arrival, all
teachers stay in temporary accommodation
and SEST assists teachers to find their
own apartment within the first week.
Teachers’ apartments are not company
owned. SEST has a list of private landlords/organisations
that are happy to rent to teachers.
Apartments
- Most apartments are shared.
- Cheaper apartments are unfurnished
and second hand furniture can
be bought easily and cheaply.
Most new teachers however opt
for furnished or partly furnished.
- Since SEST is sponsoring the
teacher whilst in Taiwan, SEST
has a legal responsibility to
ensure the teacher abides by the
rental agreement.
- The teacher decides on the location
of the apartment as advised by
the school and the teaching schedule.

Costs
- Temporary accommodation on arrival
is subsidised by SEST.
- Two months deposit is usually
required for all apartments.
- Schools can help organise loans
to assist with the deposit payments.
- Monthly rent (TWD 6,000-9,000)
is usually equivalent to about
a quarter of the monthly salary
although this depends on location,
age and the amount of furniture.
- Monthly utilities are paid by
the teacher.
